Finally finished building my new gaming system. It's called the "Battle Ship" ...LoL... because it kinda looks like one to me. I set my Phenom 9850BE up for my boys to use. Does anyone here have any tips and recommendations for crossfire set-up? And, for some reason, I am having issues updating to the latest catalyst drivers from the "in the box" drivers that came with the cards - I assume that i need to get the latest drivers installed.
Specs:
In-Win IRONCLAD Full tower - 1 x 240mm Side Fan, 4 x 120mm fans (top, front, and rear)

Phenom II 965BE (no OC...yet)
8gb Kingston HyperX Ram - running at 1600

He has a larger box, and its filled with lots of fan holes for air. He also likes it in the rear. He has a medium-larger size Power supply, a newer motherboard with lost of little doo-hickies, lots of storage space, his brain has 4 split personalities that may or may not talk to one another really fast, has a lot of the newer and faster memory chips but likely one is sure to fail due to the brand, he is overcompensating his graphics by splitting the workload between 2 cards, he likes his overpriced DVDs with high definition, and he bought the best operating system on the market that even has half a prayer to run it all.

ohh nooo'ss, ...dammittt!!!... looks like I gotta take it apart now and send it back, since I have recieved an unfavorable review from Crazy49erperson, suggesting I spent too much and used the wrong components...even my MB with the lost of little doo-hickies. Crap.
He also likes it in the rear .... Nice attempt at humour at my expense, and I do see the correlation here and the suggestion that either 1) a like my rear fan bc it helps keep all these, as has been suggested, worthless, rediculously priced components cool or 2) i am the "bitch" in a homosexual relationship. Thanks for contributing to this thread, created within (Pc Questions - Public Your Pc Busted? That Prog. Does not work. Want to ask about Pc parts? Post It Here)... which was an attempt to seek advice.
In conclusion, let me not forget to depart to you one more thing:

Dont use the 'in the box drivers'
Go directly to the ATi website and get theirs.
I still think your a truck driver though.

nah man you're fine, I'm just joking around ... its a nice rig and I cant afford anything close to it atm.
I spent an extra $80 on 2 more gig of ram (4 total of DDR2) you have the nicer, faster DDR3 I spent another $150 on Windows 7 64bit + a 500gig HDD recently just because my Vista 32bit 160gig HDD ("hard drive" in laymans terms) got filled up.
But im still running a dual core processor with a motherboard both I picked up late 2006 when I built the rig. I just cant afford to upgrade to a nicer unit so I keep adding new parts to the one I have. I'm on my 3rd Video card sadly.. my Geforce 8800 blew up after 1 year, they sent me a new overclocked model and that blew up after 1 year (seeing a trend) so I'm upgraded now to one of the newer Geforce GTS 250. For my needs, it works great and im past a year now on it, so far so good.
I want a blueray player in the computer like your rig cause they're cheaper in most cases than the external units.... and you can just run an HDMI cord or go wireless back to the TV via a broadcast.
So far it sounds like you have a kickass system, I have misgivings about K-byte but I sell them at work and use it in our tech center (I'm a computer technician, not Geeksquad though) and DDR3 is very nice stuff so I'm sure you'll get a long lifespan out of it.
Are you stock fan cooling that phenom processor or are you adding a larger fan to it? Even if you're not overclocking you can easily get a little better output from adding a large aftermarket cooling fan. I was checking out the new all-inclusive liquid cool systems that have 120mm large radiator that latches on the back in the fan port, (top/side/rear) and pipes 2 lines down to a clamp that attaches to the top of the processor. No need to cut/fuel your own hoses and it never evaporates or needs to be refilled. Look up the "Corsair CWCH50-1" or the "COOLIT ECO C80 / C92 A.L.C." they're painless to put in and drop another 20C off the CPU.

My problem was working through the ATI driver update, since the ones that came with the disk were over a year old and needed to be updated. One should expect if I can build a system and have it boot up properly.... i should know how to update friggin drivers! recent CCC drivers just woulnt take for some reason, and I read all the advice present on AMD/ATI's website...even watched a dam video. As expected, was doing it right. Now, all of sudden, i went through the process again, and low and behold the drivers updated. Runs games, including Mercs, 100x better. Problem solved, for now.
Nah, I dont plan to OC right now, because yes, I do have the stock fan on the CPU. I use AMD's Turbo noob program to boost it to 3.51ghz, up from 3.4. That's all right now. It idles at 33-35 degrees and gets no hotter than 50 degrees when running games like Fry Cry 2, Halo, etc.. I see no need to OC, something about voiding warranties and shit, but if i do, i'll stick with an air cooler - like a coolermaster V series or similar. My case excepts water cooling, but I have heard too many bad things about that.
I have an older phenom with ddr2 as well, with a ordinary EVGA 9600gt. It's in a very nice case from Raidmax and I could have upgraded that one if I wanted too - the ASUS board in that one is capable of excepting phenom II cpus, but not DDR3. It runs wonderfully, but decided, to lesssen the bickering and reduce the "dad, so-in-so is on the puter and wont let me play" crap from my 4 boys, I decided to set it up in one of thier rooms. Now they have 2 pc's (one is a old Intel P4), with both internet ready and ready to be used for school work... yea,....right!
I thought about going with the 250, but since I have never used ATI before, I wanted to buck the trend and try them. I am still a big fan of invidia, and I am quit sure as of today that updating drivers on nvidia cards is a hell of a lot easier and less finicky than ATI.
