I've been trying to sell Slackah on playing the free game Savage2, which is a melee-style FPS with some RTS and mild RPG elements. You can find it here:

This game plays a little similarly to Onslaught from Unreal Tournament 2004 (another one of my favorites). You play either the human faction or beast faction and each team has its own ranged weapons (FPS view) and melee weapons (third person view). Melee attacks do far more damage than hits from ranged weapons. One player on each team can become a "Commander" and play the game as an RTS, building structures, filling out a shallow tech tree, and buffing teammates and debuffing opponents. The goal is to destroy the enemy's fortress and it will be necessary to build sub-bases in order to have spawnpoints closer to the enemy. The RPG element is that your player collects experience for kills and can level up. (This resets every map with all players starting at Level 0 with a maximum level of 15.)
Anyway, this game is FREE and it's a legitimate, first-rate game. Check it out.
It also has a pretty decent server browser, a good user interface, and built-in voice comm. At one time it also had active clans. Here's a movie showing a clan match:
