Dunamis has tried dilligently to help me find the issue with my mw4 game not connecting. I will give you the run down and hope y'all might see something else to try.

We have been using CenturyTel DSL for about a year with no issues. Early 2009 my game started not connecting to servers. Even the Hamachi did not work for me. My tower was old so I accredited it to a failing mobo. Late '09 the hd failed and after installing a new one and reloading XP - everything worked including mech. WOOT ! I enjoyed several months of playing then the dreaded networking error returned around Xmas. Tax return came in - built new tower. Figured all my problems are over now. Installed Win 7 64bit. Went and fresh downloaded all the patches and the script thingy. Installed according to the guide at the MWL as an administrator. Networking error. ARGH ! So I dumped the game and reloaded without adminstrator - Netwroking Error. ARGH, ARGH !

My question/theory is that CenturyTel is using RoadRunner lines up North and this is creating my issues. I play other games online with no problems.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Some back up info for this post....
New tower is built and operating - Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
AMD 2.8 ghz 64 bit dual core
Gigabyte MA790GPT-UD3H mobo
4gb DDR3 Corsair ram
Sapphire Radeon HD 4670 1gb DDR3 video

everything works BUT mercs. *sigh*
I got TS3 to work but I couldn't hear anyone last night. *sigh*

I loaded mercs with my old downloads.
No connection.

Uninstalled - downloaded new files from MWL.
No connection.

Unhooked Linksys wireless and hooked back direct to the DSL.
No connection. *sigh*

DSL has TCP & UDP ports 27999, 28800 & 28805 open.

He installed and ran as admin.
I dl'd the new shell file so the checksum screens matched - still getting networking error.
I never got a confirmation from OMG if he had these ports opened....
47624 to 47624 UDP/TCP
27999 to 29000 UDP/TCP
6667 to 6667 UDP/TCP
2300 to 2400 UDP/TCP
I hope this helps anyone who can help OMG.

You need to go through the posts druid made about Vista Dunny. I don't recall exactly but I beleive you have to get the file to run in some sort of emulation and you are good to go. However, the packs as I understand it will not work. I will see if I can find you linkage when I get home.

Basically if Druid doesn't have the answer then that will be it for the Coop in suggestions ... after all he is the 'wizard' with Mech ... :lol

I say get out of MECH all togather, problem solved!

I was going to say bridge the modem with the router but dunnie said you tried w/out router. Try pm with Druid or Moochie

Yep Dunny, all those are open on the DSL and Linksys wireless router.

I was sent to check out portforward however after reading about it, they said that if a software firewall is in place then opening the ports won't be enough. I am confused as why it worked for a period of time then stopped then worked then stopped yet again.

BTW My terminology of "worked" is that I can connect to a server. I was even able to load the Packs and run the game. I can see the game servers and the poeple in them but cannot connect to them. :(

Maybe its the dam firewall. Did you try with and with out it?

GoatnChiken

Yep and I even tried opening the specific ports in the firewall as well as allowing the program.

I used to have a program that listed all the servers in a separate program, it was pretty generic, but you could see the IP's and you can also get that information at Mek Teks site. Then you can "Look" directly at the server without routing through the platform server. It'll show up differently on your game board, as a second listing. I used to have a lot of trouble connecting, but after a while it seemed to correct itself, it was still a pain in the butt for 6 months though.

Unlike my old friend FreightTrain, I'm not ready to quit playing this game yet. It's kept me sane through a lot of bad times. I think it's worth fighting for. If you can't connect through IP only, and you also can't get your comms to work. Maybe you should forget the game for the moment and concentrate on your comms, many of our folks have msn up while their online. You can't talk but you can PM, that way you can get some co-ordination from the rest of us. Mine is now active when I'm on.

Add me to yours it's: the_kid_427@yahoo.com

Also take your mic and headset to ANY friends house and make sure your mic is working.

After screwing with my puter for a week I found a broken wire, so make sure it's not the easy stuff. Once you get to the point where we can talk it'll be a lot easier for us to work together to fix you Mech problem.

Also, at MWL there is a shelmt.dll file or some such in the d/l section. you'll be wanting to replace yours with that as a starting point. Just dump it in your MW folder and say yes to replacin it.

P.S. I'm not very good on these here things but this is a start and as soon as Druid sees it I'm sure he'll be puttin on the info. too.

So Druid does those individual connections in that Netgear thing have to be named differently?

So Druid does those individual connections in that Netgear thing have to be named differently?

its the way my router has to be set up, each service has to be named its just how i did it at the time but the important thing really are the tcp and udp ports

i went through a lot of connection problems myself at one time and after a bit of research and trial and error i dont have any issues now

also if u the router has the options always remember to set them to in and out traffic

Lets put this someplace we can find it easy, it sounds great, I have some issues myself and this seemed to fix it.

GoatnChiken

1. None that i am aware of. It is the free AVG9.0 that is not supposed to have one.

2. UAC - off

3. Windows Firewall - off

4. Mercs set to Vista SP1 as Admin

5. DSL Router ports reset again to those you had listed.
Wireless Router ports reset again to those you had listed.

Mercs started as admin in multiplayer - Connection or networking error. :eusa_doh:

Is there a launcher that could help the situation? My son plays several other online games and he said some are now requiring launchers for the online users to connect.

Befuzzudled OMG.

Can something be not recognizing the request to open ports on his PC or software?

DruidChiken
03-20-2010, 07:32 PM
The only launchers that im aware of were for Netmech 4 and NBT and they were merely switches for the different versions of the game

all i can now suggest is uninstalling mercs and when u reinstall make sure that u install as admin.
To do that ignore the autorun when the disc is put in, close it down then explore the CD , right button click on the setup.exe and select run as admin

sorry of u have already done it but all theres not much else to try

Can something be not recognizing the request to open ports on his PC or software?
Dunny if that was the case i would say that it was an issue with windows itself and he would have similar problems with other games

Okies Druid

We will try reloading one more time.

Thanks for all your Chikens help and suggestions.

Well the reload was unsuccessful. Time to buy Crysis and load LL.

Thanks again for trying to help. :) <S> CC

Could two routers be a problem?

GoatnChiken
03-23-2010, 12:42 PM
Nope, I had already tried unhooking the new wireless router and hooked directly to the DSL. With no luck either. I am more to believe it is a DSL service problem rather than an OMG problem. I say this because I lost the ability to play mech for 6 months online and then it started connecting again out of the blue. I moved the PC in the front room and it all worked then one day it said no more and I haven't been able to connect since even with a brand new pc.

According to this merger PDF files with the FCC there are not suposed to be any changes in your service. Your ISP is now CenturyLINK.

systems.”73
The problems with CenturyTel’s OSS appear to disadvantage competitors in several ways.
23. For example, CenturyTel admits that its antiquated OSS has led it to adopt a policy
limiting the number of service requests, including number ports, any given competitor could make to 50
in a single day, the purpose being to “maintain[] parity of treatment for all submitting carriers.”74
Similarly, it does not deny allegations that, because of its problematic OSS, the information in
CenturyTel’s Customer Service Record (CSR) database “is often missing, inaccurate, or contradicts
information contained in CenturyTel’s other databases.”75
70 See, e.g., NuVox/Socket Comments at 14; COMPTEL Comments at 3; Sprint Nextel Reply Comments

Page 11. Centurytel OSS is manual. And there CSR records are crappy.

DSL worked for MW4 from Fall 2007 thru Winter 2008 before the first connection failure.
I have never changed the IP status settings.
MW4 started connecting again just before I joined the Wolves then decided not to again several months later.

Wow, I've got my McAfee Firewall up, and my Windows Firewall up as well with no issues. I can even play when the wife is on the internet with her computer too. I've got RR light, it's just a bit faster than dial-up.
Can you go into the game far enough to play the canned version. Check all the functions and make sure your good to go in there. The reason I ask is because the first thing I did was make a copy of my CD's. If your using an old original it may be defective. A scratch or artifact on the disk may corrupt one of the required files.
