I'm considering getting a new gaming rig. If I only use it for playing mp games (BF, AA, Mech) and never use it for email, IE, etc. is it necessary to install an antivirus software? Would just a firewall suffice? And if so, would just the standard Winblows firewall be sufficient?

This isn't a cost concern, but rather a performance concern. But, I do need the new PC to be as secure as possible since it will be on my network and if it gets hacked, then my other PCs might be in jeopardy.

Thanks! oh, and BAWK!

I have one dedicated game/surfing rig. No anti, but firewall and router dynamic. Fortunately so far, no problems, but my other box is always off when I'm gaming.

Every anti or malware blocker, snoop guard, or the like I have used is a systems resource hog which is why I went to the dedicated rig setup. That way if I get compromised on my gaming box it's not the end of the world.

I'd ALWAYS advice some kinda virusscanner.
Virusses dont only come from email, but also through internetting, 3rd party addons (gaming addons usually) or just a file on a memorystick you got from a friend.

Just get a freeware thing (AVG or something) if you dont wanna buy anything but still want a minimum of antivirus.
