Ok, so I can build a computer in my sleep, but I want a second opinion from all you fellow geeks. Last week I was having some serious crash issues with my computer, and narrowed it down to corrupt (or so I thought) sound drivers. I did a full update/reinstall of them and all was well for about a week. Then yesterday it crashed out again, but this time would not even boot to bios. I tried several common solutions (HD swap etc) to see what kind of prob it was, but got frustrated and gave up after several hours and still no bios. Today, I yanked out the sound card and all seems well. This leads me to believe that the problem was solely in the sound card. What I want to know from those more knowledgeable than I is this: what are the possbilities that it's a mobo prob and I'm just beginning to see problems? I can't even begin to afford a new rig right now, so I'm hoping it is indeed just the card. Any input would be appreciated.
EDIT: In case anyone wants to know... MOBO = ASUS P5N-E SLI, X-fi Xtreme Gamer sound card from about a week after they were relaesed (also known as OLD)

Thoughts of a trouble shooter-
My first thought is that it is the sound card, but the best way I can think of to check is to try putting a different card in that slot give it a week or so, if no crashes then its probably your sound card.
The other thought is if it is you mobo then you can just replace the mobo not the whole rig.

Doc,
Look for bulging capacitors on the mobo. If the sound card was going wacko and finally bit it, the chances are good it was fawking with the PCI (or PCIe) bus. It'd be like if someone told KTB she won the lottery while on comms during a match. NOBODY could get a word in edgewise and just give up trying to communicate.

I had this same board until went to a 1333 Asus. Never had a problem with it, but The Creative's XI-Fi's are known for not mixing with nVidia chipset boards (especially vista rigs at one point)

Well I never had probs until now. I've been running that sound card for years (as I said since it came out), and running this MOBO/CPU since the Q6600 came out. Hopefully I won't have any probs with the next one.
