Some people voiced concerns about some of the smilies on this site.
Now, its a simple matter to delete some smilies, but where do we stop?
Where do we draw the line??

Let me know pls

I have voted No objections to any. I think we are all adult and mature enough to not take any offence to a smilie or a naughty word.

I have voted no aswell.

I agree with Angel and further more think that we are also mature enough to use common sense when writing posts.

Voted "no". I am not offended. I find some of them bad taste (violent ones), and I think we see huge OVERUSE of them. But, I am not offended, and I guess "to use or not to use" them is a personal decision for each one of us.

I will simply refrain from using things I find inappropriate.

A couple are a bit rude (IMO) ... but not so horrible that I feel I need to notify the FCC or something.. lol

Ok, i'll go edit the emoticonslist then.
The voting is to close to make a big deal out of it.
I dont think most of us would mind a little less "upsetting" emoticons.

*starts editting*

*sigh* I am disappointed we have to moderate something like this. Still the will of the many outweigh the will of the few.

BAWK!

I votes yes, not because I am personaly offended....but because I see it as mostly unnececary, somtimes irritaing and definatly invitive to abuse. It is us who are providing these icons and we have to take in account all of our visitors. By providing these icons we implicitly approve of them being used by our guest in their posts. This brings me to the following reasonings:

* The argument of indiviual people not using them by choice is irrelevant with respect to the question asked.
* The argument that chikens won't abuse these emoticons in on their own forums is irrelevant because it is not just us using it.

Then there is the fact that we are definatly NOT all of adult age and/or mature. This is true for both chikens and visitors, we definatly got some young peeps here.

Finaly I want to state that the purpose of emoticans is to add an extra dimension to a textual posting. In other words, they are part of the message one is trying to send. Thery are not here to make freaking animations for the sake of showing off emoticons themselfs. And since we don't have frequent postings over elaborate acts of sex and violence, the associated emoticons have little to no purpose of being present on our forums.

Another take on the subject is that these animated emoticons are almost forced upon people. When making a posying, half the screen is filled with animated emoticons. Even if a visitor does not like to use these, he does see them all the time, even if few people use them.

My suggestion is to only present the normal friendly and non-animated smilies and hide approved animations behind a button of some kind. People that realy intend to use an animation will still be able to do so with ease. For me all this movement while trying to read or write a text is becoming just as irritaing as webpage commercials are! And it saves a lot of waisted bandwidth as well....

Just my 2cents,

I wish smileys would stay simply because they aid in identifying whether or not someone is just joking.

For example, I use the ;) smiley a lot simply because I'm one to make fun of people in a jesty way. I always include a wink smiley afterwards in case they don't get that its just a joke.
