Anyone do any 3D Modeling? Just got Maya Learning Ed.

I've gotten to the point where I can do amazing things with cubes, cylinders, spheres, and donuts, but I'm not sure how to do stuff like stick 'em all together or add additional polys etc... It's fun. No good at 2D but I think 3D could be my thing. Anybody read any good books or see sites on the subject?
