Heard of the game, didn't care about it a while back. Obviously a lot of other people felt the same way, and thusly, the game studio closed down as it wasn't bringing in the profits expected. Too bad, so sad.

No suprise there, FASA has been in decline for a long time.
FASA used to own the rights to mechwarrior then Microshaft bought them out and started milking its staff over to their game efforts thus Mechassault was born
M$ now sit on the Mechwarrior franchise and have not got the insight to release Mechwarrior 5 and if they do no doubt it will be another dumb Mechassault clone for the braindead Xbox generation.
So RIP FASA it was good while it lasted

Eh, everyone's got their own opinion. The Halo series has bored me to tears and is hardly innovative (even the storyline is based off of the old Marathon game series Bungie first developed years ago). But then again, I've played every single FPS since the genre was invented so nothing really excites me these days. Developers opt for the safe, tried and true method rather than the experimental and unique.

If a company sits on a franchise it's because they believe there is still money to be made with it, but not right now. Take Wing Commander and Command & Conquer. EA sat on them both for a while.

...because the market opts to avoid risks in experimental games because they are too complex. "OMG THINKING!" kills genres, just ask flight simulator developers.

Didn't play a lot of Mechwarrior but I'll let you XBox owning chikens know what I think of Chrome Hounds. Actually digging single player well enough for the customization factor so I have high hopes for multi.

I found Chrome Hounds rather dull and boring... atleast teh demo was. I though of it as a mechwarrior/mechassault wannabee.

Forge. Look into that my friend. =) I think thats rather unique in an FPS. Its in Halo 3.

Seen it. Done it. Rather use an actual map editor.

Nope. Seen it before. Used it before. Like Billy said, I preferred (note the past tense) a full-blown map editor.

Funny how Halo was one of the best FPS to be made.

If you're limiting your history to the past ten years, then yeah it probably is.

It doesn't really tickle my funny bone like Lewis Black does.

Not even that long ago, really. Unless we're just considering the console crowd, in which case I'd venture to say the Halo series is the best FPS game, because the vast majority of made-first-for-consoles FPS games suck.

See I like the first Halo for the attitude of Master Cheif, Cortana, and the intro quotes to each chapter. That and it is fun to throw plasma grenades onto grunts and watch them run behind elites.
The mechanics though go back to the days of Duke Nukem "Im here to kick ass and chew bubblegum...and Im all out of bubblegum" days
Doom 3 in my opinion would get a better vote, simple because the bloody game made me jump.
F.E.A.R would be my all time favorite for the simple fact, that even on easy, the enemy A.I s are friggin smart and actually use basic infantry tactics.
Spaz is kind of right though, beside a slight upgrade in mechanics, how much has the first person shooter changed from Wolfenstien. Then again most FPS are played for the mindless violence anyway and there hasn't been a real need for change.

I think it's best described as a cross between Mechwarrior and Armored Core (FROM's faster-paced mecha game).
The building system is pretty sweet as there's more to putting your hounds together than just squeezing all your favorite weapons into a predetermined chassis. Most people seem to think SP is pretty weak, but I've had a reasonably good time trying to get S-Ranks in everything for new parts (and new building ideas) and the more Hound on Hound battles I run into, the more I'm looking forward to multi. It's definitely not the prettiest 360 game out there but it's the only one of its kind which is good if you're not really into standard FPS fare.

Oh and Halo's okay but it's no Redneck Rampage.

There's only been a very small percentage of "exotic" FPS games where they fitted (successfully) other genres into them. Deus Ex (the sequel was horrid, though) and Battlezone (again, the sequel wasn't that great) are two examples. Postal for being completely wacky, inappropriate, and all that jazz. System Shock series is also another one to praise, although it didn't really reach the popularity level that Deus Ex reached.
As for Doom 3, don't forget about Aliens vs. Predator 2. Playing as Marine for the first time really scared me. Playing as Alien or Predator was wickedly fun, though. Those two games were the only two FPS games that made playing in the dark a really bad idea!

Everytime I see/hear this, there is a voice in the back of my mind that tells me I'd have more fun jamming rusty nails into my hands. I started hearing that voice after Half Life 2 was released.

about 90% of new FPS releases all have more beautiful graphics then the last. I stopped getting excited about graphics when Quake came out. At any rate, there hasn't been a massive jump in graphical quality for some time now. They just keep adding more noisy textures. When it starts looking like real life I'll pay attention again.

When the graphics start looking like real life, is when I will stop playing. Paintball is better for that anyway and considering how much games are costing or the upgrades to be able to play them, well just about the same price.

Hrm, you do have a point there. I've considered, off and on, getting involved in airsoft or paintball as a "sport" activity. Only problem is all of my friends here in Oregon are geeks and thus bruise easily, and the ones that own and are familiar with guns *cough*Billy*cough* live as far away from me as possible. It truly is a predicament. Oh well, I graduate in a year, and hopefully will be moving towards a more overall gun-friendly location.

Gun friendly? Oh you mean the country of Texas
SpazChiken

Portland isn't even super-soaker friendly. Y'see, there's two main cities in Oregon that anybody cares about: Eugene, or Portland. Both of these cities are where most of the 60's have migrated to, along with all the anarchists. So, finding people interested in being shot at with non-lethal projectiles is rather a moot point.
