Supreme Commander?

I'm thinking of buying two new games this summer, one of the will be Sins of a Solar Empire and I was thinking about Supreme Commander. I was wondering who played it and what they thought of it and whether it was worth the $40.00 to buy it.

SupCom is a very very good game. Get it, but its a CPU hog. Need a good proccessor and graphics card, also like atleast 2gigs of ram too for it to run smoothly.

Command and Conquer 3 is practically the same game...but is a little better visually.

Well, I'm looking for a new rts game thats like HW2. SupCom and SoaSE are two that I've heard good things about.

I'm not sure how much SupCom is like HW2 but I loved both games. SupCom is processor intensive though as someone said before, but it runs smooth most of the time on my AMD FX60 (dual core helps I think) with only a gig of slow 3200 ram and a set of SLI GeForce 7900 GT. That's at 1024x768 with the only slow down popping up when lots of tech 3 anti air missile launchers start firing (they spawn lots of little missiles). So if you have anything like my set up (which is pretty old, I think) you should have a great time with this game. As for SoaSE I can't say since it isnt out yet. However, I loved GalCiv2 and the Homeworld games and with SoaSE shaping up to be some sort of combination of both styles, it'll be a must buy for me.

I played the demo of C&C3 but just didn't like it after being spoiled by SupCom.
C&C3 was a little more frantic and claustrophobic when compared to SC.

I played all three faction campaigns of SC, on my laptop at 1920x1600 resoultion. It did got slow once the number of units became large. Still I liked it and found its worth its money.

It did not got me hooked like some other games did however, and given the hardware requirements and time I got left (I play EVE, so you know I got at most 1 hour a day during downtime), I wont even dare to enter multi-player!

As a general comment with regard to multi-player and games like these I think they are hard to make right IMHO. There is always a buildup phase where nothing realy intersting happends, then some guy looses connection etc. Alternativly its all pure rush and thats cam make a game unbalanced quite rapidly.

Homeworld II almost got it right with some early action and possible escalation to huge fleets when skills were matched. Maybe SC does have this too, but I think the hardware requirements and internet lag will hinder it more then it did homeworld II.

And ofcourse nothing beats Mechwarrior 4 for a quick instant action, we realy need a Mechwarrior insipred MMORPG ;).

Thanks. I was talking with Wraithguru on the HW2 lobby, and he has the beta of SoaSE and he says that it doesnt really have a future in multiplayer because of the amount of time it takes. According to him it takes hours for one game....which I definitely won't have time for in college.
