Well today I decided to go buy 1gig ram. So went to the shop and had a specialist tell me that the ram I used currently (I took a stick) was 256mb DDR 333. So I bought 1gig DDR 333. Took it home and plugged it in. So at the time I had 1gig and 256mb together. Plugged everything back in turned the computer on.. It started up but the monitor wouldn't even blink on. So I took the 256mb out and left the 1gig in alone. Again the monitor wouldn't even blink. Then I took the gig out and put both 256mbs in and it worked.. Anyone know why the gig wouldn't work?
Thanks

Try getting one that isn't DDR 333, look on the 256mb it should tell you what DDR it is.

Good thing that link showed what motherboard you have, I could have lead you in the wrong direction. There are three things that can be wrong.
1. You will need to make sure that the 1GB module is in the first slot (the one nearest the processor).
2. Make sure that you have put the module in nice and snug. I've been doing this for years and once in a while I still fawk this one up.
3. You may need to slow down the speed of the RAM, depending on what kind you got. See page 3-11 in your manual, and adjust your Memclock Value and CAS Latency. Chances are you need to set the CAS Latency to CL3.0. That board you have is in the TS server, so I'm kinda familliar with it. :)
You can actually use DDR 400 in your system, but I'd recommend Kingston memory if you do that (KVR400X64C3AK1/1G). It's a 1GB "kit" that has two 512MB modules in it that are designed to work togeather.
Hope some of that helps.

Im planning on taking the gig back to the shop getting a refund and buying dual 512mb
As for step 3.. What?
