Sooo....I have a '96 Jetta that I almost blew up today. How you say? Well, it's not pretty. My car has always run hot (110C area, about 230F) so what we decided to do was put more coolant in so that it will cool better since it was below the minimum line.
Anyway, it ran hotter than usual this morning (yah, even hotter) so when I got done lunch I decided to open the hood and see what the hell is going on. I opened the hood and as I went to reach for the overflow container...the emergency valve blew and emptied my entire antifreeze into the parking lot...nice eh?
SOOO...about an hour and a half later I fill it up with new (and improved no doubt) anti-freeze slowly and start it back up (i let it bleed into the engine for a while so that no bubbles would form).
the thing started up no probs and It was time for me to leave work anyway. So after testing it for a while to make sure it ran fine I left for home. Well, about 3 miles up the road I saw that the car was idling normally. Around 180F (like 80C) and I was amazed, this was the coolest it ever ran. I thought this incident was the best thing that ever happened to the car because it ran so much cooler.
NOT. About another mile down the road I see steam coming out of my engine compartment exactly where my overflow container is...
Yah, blew out again, so now school starts up again tomorrow and I don't have a car :disgusted:
