What RAID level are you going to be using? If Stripe ( RAID 0 ) then you are probably going to need a reinstall of your OS. If RAID 1 ( Mirror ) then you need to think about the impact on write speeds that is going to have.

Also, make sure you are using hardware RAID and not doing it through XP.

A really good guide to RAID and the concepts aroudn it can be found at...
http://www.acnc.com/raid.html

Basically all RAID levels ( other than 0 ( Striping )) are used for fault tolerance. Striping provides no fault tolerance but will improve access speeds - esp. if the drives are on different controllers.

ya i know about raid, i am probly gana mirror them, well i'll ither mirror or just have 2 hard drives 400g instead of 200g but im not sure i will use that much space, and it would be a pain to have to reinstall everything and set it all up again.

Some software mirrors will require a rebuild - if you hardware mirror it the chances are you wont need a rebuild. With a mirror, though, you will have much slower write times since you are writing the data twice.

No you don't loogie because the hard drives write simultaneously. It will be the same speed as 1 normal drive. If you mirror them you will only have 200 gigs (yeah, only my ass) and when you stripe em you will have 400.

Let me know if this breaks on you. Ive went threw 2 of these in new systems i have built. Not the AGP version it seems ok.

1 450 and one 500

As I said L_A_N - Stripe is for performance, Mirror is for fault tolerance. Go with what you need.

Omega - you are right, Mirror is the least efficient RAID but no worse than single drive. I am still stuck in the mind set of useing older RAID controllers and *gasp* software RAID.

Wow 2 SLI 6600 !! :o . I heard SLI only gives a card a 130% boost at most. Id go for a single 6800 ;) for less
