They seriously pissed of God or the Devil or something, cause after 3 earthquakes in a period of 6 months, now volcanos are about to finish the job..

Expert's warning about Lake Toba in Sumatra

SYDNEY — As Indonesia struggled to recover from the second deadly earthquake to strike it in three months, an Australian expert warned yesterday that the country faced the prospect of a "super volcano" eruption that would dwarf all previous catastrophes....

Prof Cas said Toba's last eruption 73,000 years ago was so massive it altered the world's climate. "The eruption released 1,000 cubic kilometres of ash and rock debris into the atmosphere, much of it as fine ash, which blocked out solar radiation, kicking the world back into an ice age," he said.
....

ofcourse....it might be just a "false" alarm though..
"A super volcano will definitely erupt," he said. "It could be in a few, 50 or another 1,000 years, but sooner or later one is going to go off."

But various newssites have reported that the volcano on Sumatra, Toba, has started to smoke and rumble..

25.000 people have already evacuated the area.

"It was like the end of the world," said Syafrudin, 65, a farmer, after fleeing from the mountainside and speaking outside a makeshift tent near the village of Tanjung Aua.

"I first heard the rumble and then the ground started shaking ... then there's smoke and sparks. We all ran in fear."

According to Rampino's research, Toba blasted a crater 100 kms long and sent 3 billion tonnes of sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere and a dense volcanic cloud around the globe.

"He also suspects that Toba's super-eruption was responsible for the population crash of 70,000 years ago, when the number of people fell to no more than 10,000", the magazine added.

Michael Rampino warned that this kind of super- eruption occurs every 50,000 years

Its been due to errupt for 20.000 years

Coincidentally, there was a show on the Discovery channel just a few nights ago about the Super Volcano below Yellowstone Park (near Moocher).

They say there is a 100% certainty it will blow....just don't ask when.

Beat me to it LoneStar ...

There is speculation that a caldera in south-east Africa wiped out all but a handfull of humanity about 120,000 years ago or so... creating a genetic bottle-neck that may explain why we are all so much alike when compared to other large populations of animal species.

Yup, If this Volcano goes off seriously within the next 20 years, we'll loose most of that region in population, go into another ice age, (which Iceland has proved it can live in and through, cause they bring us the wonderful game of EVE, and even when it's 60 degrees below outside, the servers are still going strong!), and we're pretty much not going to have to worry about going to McDonalds any more... It's going to be a wasteland society where we'll all pretty much be going back to hunting and gathering for about 20 years.

I hope they have a shitload of Nuclear Energy, cause, without something "warm" to power us and provide Electricity, we are done for... maybe.
I'm actually pretty positive that the human race now can withstand a hit like this (in industrialized nations) and be ok. We as a whole of society may have to deal with a lack of foods, power, and clean water supplies for about 3 years, and the impending cold that might last about 35,000 years or so, but hey, we made it this far right!?....LOL!
WOuldn't it be sad that 80% of the Earths population got wiped out cause of a stupid Volcano? I think so too. I don't want to get wiped out by a damned volcano! Let alone not be able to see the thing going off over there, and affecting me over here. Truth is, those Scientists can speculate, and model theory all day long, but until that thing goes off down there, WE really just don't know, nor will we know. It could "burp" and just scare us, or it could destroy the entire mountain its made up of, or it could just rumble and quake for the next 1,000 years.... which would be good, because that would give us time to live and give scientists time to figure out a way to relive the stresses down there and cause the explosion to not be so bad, thusly saving millions of lives... It would be great if they could find a way to use nuclear devices to put holes in the side of that thing and cause it to "leak" into the ocean peacfully like the Hawaiian volcanoes do now.
Oh, but, wait, they got too many people dieing of starvation down there now.... LET IT BLOW!...lol.. JK.

I don't think anyone down there pissed off "god". I think it's just thier turn cause they happen to live in a part of the world that is very tectonically active at this point in time. Unfortunately, for them, there's nothing that can be done other than moving those thousands of people to safer areas. If there are any...

Personally, I hope it doesn't blow up in any of our lifetimes.
It seems to be overly active and a few years ago in that same area, a 747 Jumbo-Jet flew threw the ashes of a volcano, not knowing what was going on, they began to experience flame balls coming out of the engines, plasmatic emissions from the engines, and a sand blasted windshield. They decended below 13,000 ft. and found they were still ok, and they were resuming "normal" flight. They went above 13k ft, and had the same problem. They decended again, and decided they should land ASAP to check out the aircraft.... (they actually NEVER knew they were flying through Volcanic Ash, until after they had landed safely at a nearby airport.)

Needless to say, Air travel will be sorely disrupted for a long time, among other things, if that thing goes off.
I wish them luck.
BAWK!

Yet another response from, who else, the long winded PirateChiken!

Yeah yeah, I know, my posts are long, ("that's what she said!")....but, at least I try to make a point and show some understanding. Which is why I'm posting on this subject again!

I was reading and going over the info, links and websites pertaining to these eruptions and vocanoes, and such, and found that wow, we really are overdue for a major erruption of a magnitude that COULD really wipe out a large population of people on the Earth.

All this talk about Terrorism needs to be put to bed, and we as HUMANS need to address WTF we're going to do when one of these bad boys blows up... I'm firm in my confidence that Technology and Thermonuclear power plants and "save" us through an Ice-age. As long as we don't loose something that grants us the ability to make food, or power our houses, I think we'll be "ok". Problem is, we really can't predict when one of them things is gonn'a blow up. Yet we need to be ready to tacke SOME KIND of action when one does. I'm not syaing we should say "fuck it" and only worry about thes Volcanoes. I'm saying we should add that to the consideration list we have in our heads, that some day, realistically, we might have to worry about if our SUV's are going to be able to climb over a 6' mountain of snow, or Ice? Think of our next ice age coming in a few years rather than a few thousand, and put it in perspective. Do we ever really think about this sort of thing? No, not really. Why not?- Cause when we go outside, we see the sun, or clouds or rain, and we know that come the next windy day, the sun will come out tomorrow, or when ever. During our winters in the Northern Hemisphere, we know when our seasons come and go, and we know when to expect sunshine and warm temperatures. We expect that. But, imagine for a few moments, when December, January, February, NEVER END! Imagine how you HATE the snow, and it snows EVERY DAY, for about 3 years, or more if the erruption is bad enough.
I personally saw real, falling, cold ass snow here in Las Vegas. I actually had to shovel snow while at work back in January. To me, that's amazing how it could get SO COLD here and snow like it did. granted, it only lasted 1 day, but, those days were really cold. People here really aren't prepared for that sort of thing.
Your asking now, what does this have to do with a volcano erruption. EVERYTHING, cause if that BIG one down in Toba goes off, it'll send so much earth and gases and crap into the air and atmosephere that it'll block the Sun's radiation. Radiation = heat, = food, = "normal" seasonal weather patterns.
I use the word "NOrmal" in quotes because the time we live in now, is considered to be normal, yet when you ask scientists if our geological activity pattern is normal right now, they'ed tell you no, it's Sub-Normal. Meaning that we are in a Lull of tectonic and geological activity. We as humans in this part of our time on the Earth are used to a Human-Conducive way of life. Meaning, we are here, and happy to be content with the current Earth activity. We enjoy very good, and calm weather patterns, compared to centuries and thousands of years ago when the Earth was a Hostile enviornment for EVERYTHING on it. The Tectonic situation was much more active, and many of these now, seemingly inactive volcanoes were more active. there were more earthquakes, and more tsunamis hundreds of yaers ago. Only recently (within 35,000 years or so) have we become accustomed to our way of life on this planet. We are not used to the activity that kept our populous down. We have had a HUGE population explosion in the last 2000 years, and it's still growing now. The more people you got on the planet, the more people will procreate, thusly adding even MORE people to the populous. This becomes exponential at some point... look at China, for example. they have SO MANY people in that country that you have to get a license to have a child, and if your second child isn't a Male, they kill it. in some villages.
When you have a country like that, that exists in this world of today, of modern times, and you have to have a system to govern who can or can't have kids, THERE IS A PROBLEM!
So, this population explosion is the result of the LACK of geologic, and tectonic, and volcanic activity. In the past, this activity wiped out many many strong, thriving, growing populations. Has this happened in recent recorded history? No.
What does this mean? Well, it means we as a Planet, and as the Human race, have not had to deal with a major Catastrophe. Sure, the Tsunami was a big deal, but I'm talking about an extermination of 50% of the living things on the planet. It's happened before. We were here, not in the way we are now, and not in the amount of people we are now. But, it nearly took us out completely. Years ago, scientists thought it was a giant asteroid that killed the dinosaurs, and for good reason, they found the spot where it supposedly hit the Earth - The Gulf of Mexico was said to be formed from the impact. This is beliveable to me at least, looking at the size and shape of the hole it created, and seeing how they got seashells at above (now) sea-level in Montana!
Now, scientists are discussing the fact that maybe it only took a few major volcanic events, since what we are seeing from the left over evidence is that just ONE major eruption could take out half the population of the world.

Of course we wouldn't all just die overnight, No, only the immediate population of that region would suffer in an immediate way. anyone within probably 200 miles of the eruption is basically dead. Pyroclastic flows are monsterous, and move at hundreds of miles per hour. they are extremely HOT gasses, and ash and debris you can't breathe. SO the surrounding region would have to deal with that. And depending on where this happens at, where are you going to put ALL THOSE PEOPLE? Better yet, HOW are you going to move all those people out of harms way? truth is, we can't. So by default of the lack of the ability to get out of harms way fast enough, they are doomed.
Later on after the eruption, this volcano will have spewed millions of tonns of soot, gas, ash, and soil into the air, around 30 miles, give or take depending on how big the eruption is. So then, the prevailing winds carry the ash and gas, and debris around the world, via the jet stream, and start to block out the Suns rays. At first there will be giant clouds, full of arcing electric currents, and violent storms of unheard of size. Lightning and storms will begin at first and the first few months the Earth might begin to warm up a bit. then as the clouds begin to converge around the Earth and create a blanket of darkness, that's when we are in trouble, and that's when our food supplies will become threatened. No Sunlight, no food grows, no food grows, we don't eat, we dont' eat, and then our society will fall back into chaos and disarray. (this is what I personally fear the most, the sociological impacts.) Aside from the sociological impacts we have the lack of food supplies. No longer can the bread basket of Amercia feed needy parts of the world. No longer can we enjoy Rice from the fields of the South East Asian nations, No longer can we sit down and have a Krispey Kreme donught because the wheat fields in Alberta have all been frozen over... No longer can we even drive the Autobahn highway, nor can we take the train to Euro-Disnyland, because it's all covered in ICE. I'm sure there are many parts of the world that supply food as the central part of America does, don't get me wrong, I'm just using that as an example because that's what I'm most familliar with.... oh shit, I just thought of something! NO MORE VODKA FROM RUSSIA! NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!..........
Whew!.... I nearly had a heart attack!. But, seriously, I'm not trying to paint a grim picture, but people, please understand, we live in a time of happy existance. I'd much rather have to live with the tyrany of terrorism, than to have to worry about if I'm going to be able to feed myself today without getting killed trying to do it. Just because some virtually unkown rock exploded 14,000 miles from here and killed our ability to make food.... you see my point? Well, even if you don't, you still need to know that someday soon, or even never at all, we may have to deal with exact issue. I'm hoping for later than sooner, like long after I'm dead and gone, and long after our generations have come and gone. Look at the bright side, we as humans have supposedly had a good shot here on this planet, we made our own history, and explored the world. We came and changed things in an attempt to make them better. We came, and we lived, and we tried to improve what we were given. Yet, as we learned early on, nothing lasts forever...
May the Human race carry on for ever and ever.
I belive that some part of our wonderful expance of knowledge and technology that some one will find a way for everyone to survive an Ice-Age should this horrible eruption occur. This is why so many people have thier personal motto as "live life as if it's your last day on Earth". Now I understand why. Worry not about the things you cannot change, instead concern yourselves with the things you can. We cannot change where or when this eruption will or won't happen. All we can do is go on with our lives as best we can until it does. That ultimately is the message here. Don't worry about it till it happens, but be ready for it when it does.
BAWK!
