BAWK - I have been playing for about a year and a half. There are some screenies in the Misc photo almbum and in my personal one too.
I love it to pieces to be quite honest - it is a little addictive and can be some what frustrating but it is very rewarding... and pretty too :)
There are a number of servers to choose from. I play on the Gaheris server which is a US co-operative server.
This means that there is no player versus player ( Realm versus Realm - RvR ), it is all player versus environment. This suits me well. The last server I played on was a normal Euro server, and while the RvR was amazing, 200+ other players battling over a castle at the same time, it is very competitive and ultimately your uberness is governed by how much time you can afford to sit infront of a computer each day. I work but many people dont and as such I was at a major disadvantage and the super uber people took charge.
I moved to Gaheris about a month ago and I love it, if you decide to play on Gaheris ( you can choose to play on a number of servers at any one time ) then look me up as either Balooga or LoogieChiken.
IckyChiken ( Deak ) also plays, He plays on Prydwen ( my old server ) which is a normal Euro server.
To play on Euro servers you need to have Euro media and for US servers its US media.
There are a number of products available for the game:
Dark Age of Camelot - the basic game
Shrouded Isles - an expansion that adds 7 zones
Trials of Atlantis - the newest expansion, underwater fighting pretty equipment and a gfx engine upgrade.
If you want to play on the Euro servers then I can sort you out with my old Euro media if you like?
With all the expansions you will need broadband to play, somethihng like $8 a month for subs, a decent up to date gfx card, at least 512MB RAM and at least 1.4Ghz processor.
Let me know if you need any more info and if you have the US media then hop onto Gaheris and give me a shout, choosing a server doesnt limit you to playing on that one server. But your characters ant move between servers.

I forgot to say I am on about 7pm GMT - 11pm GMT most evenings.
I am a member of a guild called Perpetually Lost on Gaheris and most members are people who have come from Euro servers like me though we do have a couple of Canadians who will be on at similar times to you.
The Perpetually Lost forums can be found at:

The expansions dont cost that much and the subscription stays the saem... think it is like 20 USD each - and the Shrouded Isles may have been in the same bundle as the one you have.
Basically when you logon choose the No Thank you option form the char selector and then choose the Gaheris option from rhe Server selection screen.
For chatting its just a case of pressing return, typing then pressing return again. You can decide what channel you chat in by selecting the appropriate tab. There are a whole bunch of slash ( / ) commands to PM people, to emote, etc. and these shoudl be covered in the summary card or manual you have. If you dont have this most commands are summarised here:
http://www.silverblades.net/DAOC/slashcommands.htm
For fighting - if you have the default key layout and are low level ( below 5 ) find a monster ( mob ) that cons blue ( meaning the mobs name appears blue ) run up to it and press f6 when you are close. You will draw your weapon and fight. If you are a caster you will want to cast spells on it instead - this is a little more tricky but should be covered in your manual.
For money - at a low level you make money by killing monsters and selling the loot they drop. At higher levels there are other ways including crafting weapons/armour and selling them to other players. If we meet up I can sort you out for cash though.
You will pick it up as you go, but happy to hook up with you at some point, I am GMT so time difference may be a problem. I suggest the weekend so one evening is your late morning or something. Saturday or Sunday at 6pm GMT?
I can get you in the guild I am in and then get you moving along a bit :) hopefully you will like it and get the expansions then I can show you the housing areas and riding wyverns nd dragonfly and the such.
